The Bertani winery was founded in 1857 by brothers Giovan Battista and Gaetano Bertani, in Quinto di Valpantena, just north of Verona. Always an innovator, it was one of the first companies in Italy to understand the value of bottled wine and by the late 19th century Bertani wines were exported all over the world. Indeed, Bertani wine was served at King George VI’s coronation in Britain in 1937. This incredible history continues to shape Bertani today, and it is undoubtedly an icon of Italian wine. With over 200 hectares of vineyards in Veneto, there are two historic wineries, one in Grezzana, the current base and pulsing heart of the company where vinification and bottling takes place; and one at Tenuta Novare in Arbizzano di Negrar, in the heart of the Valpolicella Classica area, the cradle of great reds like Amarone and Valpolicella Classico Superiore. Bertani strives to express the uniqueness of Veneto’s native grape varietals and its terroir. Respect for tradition is balanced by a constant drive to innovate.
